Telangana state to be announced in May
True to his belief, the three-day Chandi Yagam, which TRS K Chandrasekhar Rao claimed that would help him in appeasing the gods in achieving separate T-state goal, might have done the trick. For, the TRS sources on Sunday claimed that they had received a “fresh message” from the Centre that an official announcement in favour of T-state would be made in May.
TRS ideologue K Jayashankar told on Sunday, “we have received information from the Centre through official agencies (Union home and law ministries) that official process for the bifurcation of Telangana state has begun and a policy decision to form T-state will be taken at the meeting of the Union cabinet by May-end.”
Confirming this, another leader, on assurance of anonymity, said that Union minister and AICC incharge of the state affairs, Gulam Nabi Azad had spoken to KCR over phone during the last two or three days and told him that there was no need for TRS to intensify agitation as the Centre was in the process of making a positive statement by May-end. The source also claimed that the issue of Hyderabad being declared as Union territory and joint capital for both the states also figured during the talks. However, replying to a question, the source added that the issue of merger of TRS with Congress party did not figure in these talks.
However, Jayashankar said as far as TRS was concerned it was strongly opposed to any move to declare Hyderabad as Union territory. He also ruled out the possibility of merger of TRS with Congress. If the Centre goes back on its word, then TRS would revive the agitation and this time there would be no pause in the movement till separate state is achieved, he said.
